SmartBox Power Management and Parking Mode Guidelines

SmartBox Power Management and Parking Mode Guidelines

  1. Power Cut-Off Timing
When either the preset voltage or time threshold is reached, the power supply will delay shutdown for 180 seconds before cutting off power. After power is cut, the SmartBox will stop supplying power from the vehicle’s battery to the dashcam.

  2. Power Consumption
The maximum power consumption of the SmartBox IV is 5V/2A (10W). In standby mode, the power line still draws a minimal current, which approaches but does not equal zero—this means there is still slight power consumption.

  3. Disabling Parking Mode
If you do not intend to use Parking Mode, please disable the Parking Mode Detection setting on the dashcam and set the power line to OFF (set DIP switches 3 and 4 to OFF).

  4. Dashcam Shutdown Behavior
If the dashcam is turned off while in Parking Mode, the power line is set to OFF, and ACC is also OFF, the SmartBox will stop supplying power and the dashcam will shut down. Only a minimal standby current will remain in the power line.

  5. Incorrect Parking Mode Configuration
If you disable Parking Mode on the dashcam but do not set the power line to OFF, then after ACC is turned off, the dashcam will continue operating in normal recording mode. It will not shut down until the preset voltage threshold is reached. To prevent unnecessary power consumption, be sure to also set the power line to OFF.

  6. Power Source During Parking Mode
When Parking Mode is enabled and the ignition (ACC) is turned off, the dashcam draws power from SmartBox. To conserve battery power, you can enable Power Saving Mode (availability may vary by model—please refer to your dashcam’s specifications).

  7. Full-Time Monitoring Mode
    When Full-Time Monitoring is enabled:

    • After ACC is turned OFF, the vehicle enters Parking Mode.

    • The dashcam pauses normal recording and enters standby, not writing files unless triggered.

    • When motion or a collision (via G-sensor) is detected, the dashcam starts event recording, saving files to the Parking folder.

    • When ACC is turned ON, the dashcam exits Parking Mode and resumes normal recording.

    • In both ACC ON and OFF states, the dashcam remains powered. The difference lies in recording behavior: continuous in normal mode and triggered-only in parking mode.

  8. Power Saving Mode
    In Power Saving Mode:

    • After ACC is turned OFF, the dashcam shuts down, leaving only the G-sensor active.

    • When a collision is detected, the dashcam powers on, records the event, and then shuts down again.

    • Upon ACC ON, the dashcam restarts and resumes normal operation.

    • Note: In Power Saving Mode, pre-collision footage is not recorded because the device is not active until a collision is detected.

  9. Battery Drain Warning
If the vehicle is turned off for an extended period, its electronic systems—including the dashcam—may continue to draw power. Prolonged idle time may lead to battery discharge, potentially preventing the vehicle from starting.

  10. Power Management in Vehicles with Battery Monitoring Systems
Some vehicles feature power consumption detection systems. When the engine is turned off and the vehicle enters Parking Mode, the dashcam continues to draw power. If the vehicle's onboard system detects that the power threshold has been reached, it may cut off battery power. In such cases, it is recommended to enable Power Saving Mode or consult with a qualified technician to determine whether installation is appropriate.

  11. Tire Pressure Monitoring
Please note: SmartBox IV does not support tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).
